Title
EWP 2-5A Petition High School
Description
Petition addressed to O.L. Emerick, Superintendent, and members of the Loudoun County School Board from citizens of Loudoun County. The petitioners respectfully request that the Board build and maintain an accredited, up-to-date high school for the “colored children of our said County.” They state that the Board is maintaining 23 public schools for African American children, and argue that “our race is justly entitled to at least one High School in the County.” Without such a facility, families are compelled to send their children outside the county to complete their education. The petitioners pledge private contributions to support the effort, noting that “there are other sources of aid such as the Rosenwald and other funds,” but emphasize that this funding must be supplemented by a public appropriation from the Board. They close by affirming that “this request is a fair and reasonable one under the circumstances.” The document includes signatories in support.
