WHITE AND COLORED TEACHERS AND THEIR
SALARIES BASED ON RESULTS OF TESTS



Tests were given to 24 colored teachers on Jenuary 29, 1941
and to 22 white teachers on February 4, 1941. The white teachers
were selected by lot and such a manner a&s to have the smme number
of white end colored teachers in each seslery group bessed on
certificates and experiences. Since 2 white teschers dild not meet
with the group 2 colored teachers of equel experience and
certificates were mXimimmkms elgminated so that the stvdy reduced
to & comparison of 22 out of our total of 26 colored teachers and
en egual number of white teachers who would receive the same
saleries under a single salary schedule.
Tests given were - Otis Group Intelligence - Higher Examinatlon,
Iowa High School Content Exemination, end a speclal Test on
Prectice of tesching.
The results show =
Intelligence =~ * white teachery haf§ I.qe less than 100.
10 colored teachers have I.q. less than 100.
Content - il white teachers &dtfi;acore less than stendard
for the 1lst yesr of college.
17 colored teadhers katzuacore less than sbandeard
for the 1lst year of college.
Practigg;feaching - 11 white teachers made less than 75.
